Recently, instead of having traditional weddings that last from morning till night, many couples are starting to pick half-day weddings that include a wedding ceremony in the morning followed by a simple luncheon. Yolanda and Simon are one of those couples.
Even though the duration of the wedding is shortened by having a half-day wedding, this does not mean that it is an easier job for the couple or our team, as everyone is on a very tight schedule to complete what is normally done in a full day wedding, and there is less time for us to capture the perfect shots. There is also less time in the morning to go through the traditional Chinese tea ceremony or to play the usual games when picking up the bride. Fortunately, the couple had a wedding planner who organised the rundown in great detail so everything went smoothly as planned.
Apart from being in a rush, another obstacle on Yolanda and Simon’s big day is the weather, as their wedding ceremony was held outdoors. Even though many couples dream about having outdoor weddings with blue skies and the sun shining warmly, the weather is never predictable and this could be a hassle. It started raining that morning, and we were all worried about how the wedding would proceed in the afternoon. Luckily, the rain stopped soon after and even though the sky was still grey, it surely did not have an effect on the enthusiasm of the couple or their guests! The atmosphere was joyful and everyone had a great time, which I believe is the most important thing in every wedding.
One of my favourite shots of that day is one that I took at the end of the ceremony, where the couple and their guests released balloons into the air. You can really feel the joy and excitement by looking at the smiles on their faces! Anyway, I hope you all like the pictures as much as I do!
