Kayla and Minn’s wedding is one that I will always remember, as it is truly a beautiful cross-cultural experience. The bride is Vietnamese and the groom is Burmese, but they decided to celebrate their big day in Hong Kong as it was where Minn grew up. A brilliant idea to incorporate the unique cultures of their own heritage was to have a Vietnamese Tea Ceremony with traditional Vietnamese wedding outfits, then a traditional Burmese ceremony two days after.
The Burmese ceremony began at 6pm at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, with the bride and the groom dressed in traditional Burmese outfits. In particular, the bride’s gown was adorned with spectacular embroidery that added a lot of beautiful detail to the pictures. Although the room had large bay windows looking out onto the harbour which could be tricky to photograph since it would mean shooting against the light, we still managed to capture every beautiful moment of the ceremony.
The ceremony was truly a new experience for me and it was absolutely beautiful and touching. I was also amazed by how Burmese weddings focus a lot on symbolisms and traditions just like Chinese weddings, which makes the ceremony that much more meaningful. It was definitely exciting and eye-opening, and I can’t wait to experience more weddings from different cultures!
